Mount Douglas Seniors Housing Society Launches Campaign to End Seniors Homelessness in Greater Victoria
A New Initiative Aims to Provide Safe and Affordable Housing for Vulnerable Seniors
Saanich, British Columbia - January 6, 2026-- For over 55 years, the Mount Douglas Seniors Housing Society has been a beacon of hope for seniors in the District of Saanich, offering safe, secure, and affordable housing. Today, the Society is proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking campaign aimed at ending seniors homelessness in Greater Victoria.
This initiative seeks to address the growing issue of homelessness among seniors, a demographic that is often overlooked in broader housing discussions. With a focus on dignity, independence, and community connection, the campaign will work towards providing sustainable housing solutions for older adults who are at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness.
"The launch of this campaign marks a significant step forward in our mission to enhance the quality of life for older adults," said Colin Doylend, Board Chair of Mount Douglas Seniors Housing Society. "We believe that every senior deserves a safe place to call home, and we are committed to making this a reality in Greater Victoria."
"Our goal is to not only provide housing but to foster a community where seniors can thrive," added Doylend. "This campaign is about more than just shelter; it's about creating a supportive environment where seniors can live with dignity and respect."
The Society's Arrow Road campus currently serves over 164 tenants in independent living settings, and this new campaign will expand its reach to assist even more seniors in need. By leveraging partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders, the Society aims to create a comprehensive support network that addresses the unique challenges faced by homeless seniors.
Mount Douglas Seniors Housing Society invites the community to join them in this vital effort. Through collaboration and shared commitment, the Society believes that ending seniors' homelessness in Greater Victoria is an achievable goal. The campaign will include various initiatives, such as fundraising events, awareness campaigns, and volunteer opportunities, all designed to engage the community and garner support for this critical cause.
As a trusted local charitable non-profit, Mount Douglas Seniors Housing Society is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors dedicated to making a positive impact in the region. This campaign is a testament to their unwavering commitment to improving the lives of seniors and ensuring that every older adult has access to safe and affordable housing.
